Indianama 2024
Tipu's Tiger by Yash Pradhan exhibited in Method, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai

Historically, stamps are issued by authorised bodies like governments and ministries – in that way, they are a conduit of a country’s system of communication and proliferation of expression and ideas. Erasure or rediscovery, in various forms hence holds significance in developing messaging for an India at the crossroads of the past, present and the future.
Thus, for Indianama 2024, artists are invited to design 1 postage stamp, from an inventory of either a ‘Lost’ or ‘Found’ object that define India’s legacy and Yash Pradhan was one of the selected artist for Tipu Sultan's Tiger.

Reimagining the historical artifact Tipu's Tiger & iconic scene of a tiger metaphorically Tipu Sultan overpowering a European soldier which is his resistance to British rule, symbolizing resistance and power.
The piece portrays Tipu Sultan standing behind, overseeing the moment with a sense of regal authority as music to his ears just like when the mechanism inside the toy is activated, the soldier's arm moves, and the tiger emits growling sounds while the man appears to cry out in pain.

The design is enriched with traditional Mysore elements, including intricate arches and delicate oral patterns, echoing the architectural and artistic heritage of the region.
These embellishments serve to highlight the cultural essence of Mysore, while the dynamic composition brings the historic narrative to life with vibrant colours and bold visuals.

Indianama 2024’s ‘Lost and Found’ project was being displayed at Method, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai from October 25, 2024 until November 2, 2024.
